About Me:

My Name is Lance

Hi, my name is Lance Tallman and I am an impassioned game producer! I love getting immersed in stellar game worlds from genres as different as fantasy and sci-fi, and I both admire and aspire to be a part of one of the incredible teams that make these game universes possible.

At the University of Utah’s Honors College, I am currently studying game development to garner more knowledge and insight into the industry I am so determined to be a part of. In addition to learning about the industry, I am taking the time to hone my skills and discover my strengths. My major's curriculum has given me the opportunity to collaborate with others in a variety of unique and interesting ways. During my first semester of college, in my Social & Ethical Engineering class, I had the privilege of working with a team of diverse engineers to develop UScoot, a transportation alternative designed to fulfill one of the University of Utah’s 2050 Sustainability Goals.

I look for inspiration in everything I do, whether it is a board game with mechanical complexities that peak my interest, or a soundtrack that gets me immersed into an experience of its own. As a producer, I learn to see value in all of the different roles that are needed to bring a game to life and how each role shapes the experience of a player uniquely. People make games, and it is my job to find out how they can work together as effectively as possible!

The Future

What my future Career Could Be

While game and narrative design are immensely compelling to me, one of my greatest assets lies in my knack for project management. Whether scoping out the development cycle of a game and story, or designing the foundations for world building, I love influencing how a game develops and how players interact throughout it.

Learning to love games

Background

My passion for games started at a very early age when I first got involved with LEGO’s and designing miniature themed battles around a variety of different genres. When I got older, my interests shifted to both video and board games from Dungeon’s and Dragons to games from all facets of the game industry such as RTS’s (real time strategies) like StarCraft II and Company of Heroes, to independently developed games such as Gunpoint or Gone Home. Now I spend much of my time playing legacy board games such as Gloomhaven and a variety of mainstream video games like Overwatch, League of Legends and Hitman while also venturing into narrative experiences such as The Last of Us, Detroit: Become Human, and A Way Out.
